Definition
A place for storing earlier, and often historical, material. An archive usually contains documents (letters, records, newspapers, etc.) or other types of media kept for historical interest.
Example
“The documentary used rare archive footage from the 1920s.”
Another example: “You can search the newspaper's online archive for old articles.”

A collection of historical records or documents, or the place where they are kept; in computing, a file (often compressed) storing older data. As a verb, to archive means to store for the long term. Neutral to formal/technical register.
