English Definition

A person who opens up new territory, clears forests, or breaks new ground — literally 'one who tames the wilderness.' In Brazilian history, desbravadores were the explorers and settlers who pushed into the Amazon and interior territories. The bandeirantes (17th–18th century explorers) were desbravadores who mapped Brazil's interior but also enslaved indigenous peoples.
