история
English meaning: History
Definition
The record and study of past events. Russia's history spans from the Kievan Rus (9th century), Mongol invasion (1237–1242), Tsarist Empire, Romanov dynasty, Russian Revolution (1917), Soviet Union (1922–1991), Cold War, and post-Soviet transition. Russia's vast territory (world's largest country at 17 million km²) and its role in WWII (losing 27 million people) shaped 20th-century history.
