hali ya hewa

/hali ya hewa/Roman

English meaning: Climate

Swahili Definition

(Kiswahili)

Mfumo wa wastani wa hali ya hewa katika eneo fulani kwa muda mrefu.

English Definition

The long-term pattern of weather in a region. Climate change is hitting East Africa hard — erratic rainfall threatening rain-fed agriculture (90% of East African farming), prolonged droughts (2022–23 Horn of Africa drought affected 36 million people), melting glaciers on Kilimanjaro and Rwenzori mountains, and rising sea levels threatening coastal cities. East Africa contributes little to global emissions but suffers disproportionately from climate impacts.

Example

Mabadiliko ya tabianchi yanadhuru kilimo cha Afrika Mashariki ingawa bara hili hutoa uzalendo mdogo wa hewa chafu.

In English: Climate change harms East African agriculture though the continent contributes little to greenhouse emissions.

Synonyms

  • tabianchi
  • hali ya anga
