English Definition
A long narrative work of prose fiction. Classical Chinese novels include the 'Four Great Masterworks'. Taiwan has a vibrant modern fiction tradition; writers such as Pai Hsien-yung (白先勇) and Wu He (舞鶴) are internationally acclaimed. Taiwan's publishing industry produces rich Chinese-language fiction read widely across Asia, and the island has been an important refuge for literary works banned in mainland China.
