One of the cardinal Confucian virtues, meaning righteousness, moral rightness, and duty. Yi — acting according to what is morally right — is a valued quality in Taiwanese culture. Taiwan's strong civil society and democratic activist tradition reflect Yi in action: citizens acting on moral principle in the public interest. The Sunflower Movement (太陽花學運) of 2014 is an example of civic Yi in contemporary Taiwan.
