河
English meaning: River
Chinese (Trad.) Definition
(繁體中文)河流是在地球表面流動的天然水道,臺灣河川因山地地形而短促湍急,濁水溪是全島最長河川,水資源管理是重要的環境議題。
English Definition
A natural watercourse flowing towards the sea or a lake. Taiwan's rivers are generally short, steep, and fast-flowing due to the island's mountainous terrain. The Zhuoshui River (濁水溪) is Taiwan's longest at 186 km. Taiwan's rivers originate in the Central Mountain Range and flow east to the Pacific or west to the Taiwan Strait. River management, including flood control and water resource management, is important given Taiwan's typhoon-driven rainfall patterns.
