The logographic writing system of the Chinese language with over 3,000 years of history. Taiwan uses Traditional Chinese characters (繁體字), which are regarded as the historically authentic form of Chinese writing. Traditional characters preserve more of the original semantic and aesthetic structure of Chinese writing. Taiwan's use of Traditional characters is seen as a cultural marker differentiating it from mainland China's Simplified character system.
