English Definition

The study of fundamental questions about existence, knowledge, ethics, and reason. Taiwan maintains a rich philosophical tradition encompassing Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism, as well as active engagement with Western philosophy. Taiwan's universities have strong philosophy departments that bridge Eastern and Western thought. Taiwanese philosopher Lee Ming-huei (李明輝) is internationally recognized for his work on Confucian moral philosophy and its relationship to democracy.
