Definition
The religion founded by Siddhartha Gautama in India in the 5th century BCE. Buddhism spread from India to China along the Silk Road from the 1st century CE. China has one of the world's largest Buddhist populations. The historical religious-cultural connection between India and China through Buddhism is an important aspect of bilateral heritage.
