Phishing
Fake emails, websites pretending to be real. Examples: 1) "Your Aadhaar suspended; click link to verify" — fake. 2) "Microsoft account suspicious activity; reset" — fake. 3) "Tax refund pending; submit details" — fake. Tells: spelling errors, urgency, suspicious URL, generic greeting.
Pizza-test rule
Before entering password: 1) URL check — actual amazon.in vs amazon-secure.in. 2) HTTPS lock icon present. 3) Browser warnings — heed them. 4) Email sender — full address (not just display name).
Modern alternatives — Passkeys
2023+ — Industry shift to passkeys (Apple, Google, Microsoft). FIDO2 standard. Cryptographic key-pair; no password to type or share. Phone unlock = login. Cannot be phished. Adoption growing 2024-25. Indian banks SBI, HDFC, ICICI passkey 2025-26 rollout.
