IaaS
Infrastructure as a Service — cloud-provided virtualized computing infrastructure over the internet.
Also: Infrastructure as a Service
Definition
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) is a cloud computing model that provides virtualized computing resources — servers, storage, networking, and virtualization — over the internet on a pay-as-you-go basis. With IaaS, users manage the operating system, middleware, runtime, data, and applications, while the cloud provider manages the underlying physical infrastructure. IaaS offers maximum flexibility and control. Examples include AWS EC2, Azure Virtual Machines, and Google Compute Engine.
Example
“A company rents 100 virtual machines on AWS EC2 during peak season, scaling down to 10 off-season, only paying for what it uses.”
