A narrative style in which magical or supernatural elements are presented as perfectly normal and matter-of-fact within an otherwise realistic setting. Pioneered by Gabriel García Márquez ('One Hundred Years of Solitude,' Nobel 1982), Alejo Carpentier, Miguel Ángel Asturias, and Isabel Allende, it has become Latin America's defining literary contribution to world literature.
