Definition

An ancient Indian religion founded by Mahavira (6th century BCE) emphasising non-violence (ahimsa), non-possessiveness, truth, non-stealing, and chastity. Gujarat has a large Jain population, and the Palitana temples in Bhavnagar are one of Jainism's holiest pilgrimages.
