Definition
The record of past events. Malaysia's history spans the ancient Malay maritime kingdoms (Langkasuka, Srivijaya), the powerful Malacca Sultanate (15th century, a center of Islamic learning and trade), Portuguese, Dutch, and British colonial periods, and independence in 1957. The formation of Malaysia in 1963 included Singapore (which separated in 1965).
