berg
English meaning: Mountain
Dutch Definition
(Nederlands)Een verheffing van het aardoppervlak die significant boven de omgeving uitsteekt.
English Definition
A large natural elevation of land. The Netherlands is famously flat — the highest point is Vaalserberg (322.7 m) in Limburg, near the German and Belgian borders. This near-total flatness is why water management is so critical. By contrast, the Dutch Caribbean islands (Aruba, Curaçao, St. Maarten) and Suriname have more varied terrain. The word 'berg' in Dutch means both 'mountain' and forms part of many place names.
Example
“De Vaalserberg in Limburg is met 322 meter het hoogste punt van het Europese Nederland.”
In English: “The Vaalserberg in Limburg at 322 meters is the highest point of European Netherlands.”
