Poland has a rich theatrical tradition — from the Polish Romantic drama (Mickiewicz's Dziady, Słowacki's Kordian) to the revolutionary avant-garde of Stanisław Wyspiański, Jerzy Grotowski's Poor Theatre (which influenced worldwide experimental theatre), and Tadeusz Kantor's Cricot 2. Polish theatre survived communist censorship through allegory and symbolic language.
