Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev (1834–1907) — Russian chemist who created the Periodic Table of Elements (1869), one of the greatest achievements in the history of science. Mendeleev arranged 63 known elements by atomic mass and predicted the existence and properties of yet-undiscovered elements, which were later confirmed. The 101st element, Mendelevium, is named after him. Russia celebrates his contribution to chemistry globally as a symbol of Russian scientific achievement.
