Definition
A stotra is a devotional hymn composed in praise of a deity. It is recited or sung to express adoration and seek divine grace.
Example
“भक्ताः देव्याः स्तोत्रं गायन्ति।”
In English: “The devotees sing a hymn in praise of the goddess.”
Another example: “भक्ताः प्रतिदिनं स्तोत्रं पठन्ति।”
Usage — When, Where & How
Classical devotional register; pervasive in temple worship, bhakti poetry and liturgy, and still common in modern spoken Sanskrit. Frequently the second member of compounds naming hymns dedicated to a particular deity.
