Jāgrat is the waking state of consciousness in which the self experiences the external world through the senses. It is the first of the three ordinary states of experience.

Example

“जाग्रदवस्था बहिःप्रज्ञा।”

In English: “The waking state is outward-knowing.”

Another example: “जाग्रति पुरुषः बाह्यं जगत् पश्यति।”
