Definition
A teacher or instructor; one who causes another to study. From adhi (upon, over) and the root i (to go) with causative suffix, meaning one who leads others in the study of texts. Distinct from guru in that adhyāpaka refers specifically to the instructional role.
Example
“अध्यापकः शिष्येभ्यः शास्त्रं पाठयति।”
In English: “The teacher teaches scripture to students.”
Another example: “अध्यापकः छात्रान् पाठयति।”
