(தமிழ்)திணை என்பது சங்க இலக்கியத்தில் நிலப்பரப்பை குறிஞ்சி, முல்லை, மருதம், நெய்தல், பாலை என ஐந்து இயற்கை வலயங்களாகப் பிரிக்கும் சிறப்பு கருத்தாக்கமாகும். ஒவ்வொரு திணையும் குறிப்பிட்ட உணர்வு நிலைகள், பூக்கள், பறவைகள், பருவங்களுடன் தொடர்புடையது.
English Definition
A classical Tamil concept dividing the landscape into five ecological zones (Kurinji=mountains, Mullai=forests, Marutham=plains, Neytal=seashore, Palai=desert), each associated with specific emotional states, flowers, birds, and seasons in Akam poetry.
