A system of belief, worship, and moral practice. Thailand enshrines Buddhism as a national institution, with the King required to be Buddhist. However, the constitution guarantees religious freedom — Islam is practiced by 4% in the south, Christianity, Hinduism, and Sikhism also coexist. Religious harmony is generally maintained, but southern Muslim insurgency remains a challenge.
