English Definition
The alphabet used to write the Thai language, created by King Ramkhamhaeng of Sukhothai in 1283 CE. The Thai script consists of 44 consonants, 15 vowel symbols, and 4 tone markers. Unlike many scripts, Thai is written without spaces between words. The script is derived from Khmer script, which itself came from ancient Indian Brahmic scripts — linking Thai writing to India's cultural legacy.
