English Definition
A form of government in which power is held by the people and their elected representatives, typically with an elected president rather than a monarch. The Turkish Republic (Türkiye Cumhuriyeti) was proclaimed on 29 October 1923 by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, replacing the Ottoman sultanate.
