Definition
A form of poetry composed of couplets (sher) that follow a strict rhyme scheme and refrain (radif). Each couplet is independent in meaning but shares the same metre. Prominent Urdu ghazal writers include Mir Taqi Mir, Ghalib, Faiz Ahmad Faiz, and Gulzar.
Example
“مرزا غالب اردو غزل کے سب سے بڑے شاعر ہیں۔”
In English: “Mirza Ghalib is the greatest poet of Urdu ghazal.”
