The Chinese system of combat techniques and physical exercises developed over thousands of years. Taiwan has been an important center for preserving traditional martial arts lineages, particularly following the relocation of martial arts masters from mainland China after 1949. Taiwan's martial arts schools maintain traditions including Shaolin, Wing Chun, and various internal martial arts styles alongside the formal wushu sport system.
