English Definition
A comprehensive performing art combining singing, music, acting, acrobatics, and elaborate costumes. Taiwan has actively preserved and innovated traditional opera forms. Taiwanese Opera (歌仔戲, gezaixi) — a form unique to Taiwan and Fujian — is the island's most popular indigenous opera tradition. Peking Opera (京劇) companies are also maintained in Taiwan, preserving art forms that faced disruption on the mainland.
