The system of institutions and officials that govern a state. Taiwan's government operates under the ROC Constitution with a semi-presidential system: the President is directly elected by popular vote, and the Executive Yuan (cabinet) is accountable to the Legislative Yuan (parliament). Taiwan has had peaceful transfers of power between political parties — a hallmark of its mature democracy. E-government services in Taiwan are among Asia's most advanced.
