The system of institutions and officials that govern a state. The People's Republic of China is governed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), which exercises supreme authority through the state apparatus. The Chinese government system has five branches: the National People's Congress, the State Council, the President, the courts, and the procuratorate. China's governance model is often contrasted with India's parliamentary democracy.
