Gravity

USUK

The fundamental force of attraction between objects with mass.

Also: gravitation

Definition

Gravity is one of the four fundamental forces of nature, responsible for the attractive force between any two objects that have mass. Newton described it with his law of universal gravitation, while Einstein's general relativity explains gravity as the curvature of spacetime caused by mass and energy. Gravity governs the motion of planets, stars, and galaxies.

Example

The Moon stays in orbit around Earth because Earth's gravitational pull continuously curves the Moon's path, preventing it from flying off into space in a straight line.
