CDN Caching
Storing copies of web content at geographically distributed edge servers for faster delivery.
Also: edge caching
Definition
CDN caching is the practice of storing cached copies of static and dynamic web content at edge servers distributed globally close to end users. When a user requests content, the CDN serves it from the nearest edge node, reducing latency and origin server load. Cache-Control headers, TTL values, and cache invalidation strategies control content freshness. CDNs like Cloudflare, Akamai, and AWS CloudFront cache HTML, images, CSS, JavaScript, and API responses, dramatically improving global website performance.
Example
“A streaming service uses CDN caching to store movie thumbnails, trailer videos, and homepage assets at 300 plus edge locations worldwide, ensuring users in Tokyo receive content as fast as users in New York.”
