/istoriya/Roman

English meaning: History

Polish Definition

(Polski)

Nauka o przeszłości człowieka i społeczeństw.

English Definition

The record of past events. Poland's history is among Europe's most turbulent — partitioned three times (1772, 1793, 1795) and erased from the map for 123 years, occupied by both Nazi Germany and Soviet USSR in WWII, site of the Holocaust (Auschwitz-Birkenau), and transformed by communist rule 1945–1989. Poland's resilience and national identity despite occupation is remarkable.

Example

Polska przetrwała 123 lata bez własnego państwa i odrodziła się po I wojnie światowej.

In English: Poland survived 123 years without its own state and was reborn after World War I.
