The systematic, state-sponsored genocide of six million Jews by the Nazi regime (1941–1945). Poland was the primary site of the Holocaust — Auschwitz-Birkenau, Treblinka, Sobibor, and Bełżec extermination camps were all in occupied Poland. Three million Polish Jews (90% of the pre-war population) were murdered. The Holocaust is a defining moral lesson for humanity and human rights.
