English Definition

The science of celestial bodies and the universe. Poland's most famous scientist is Nicolaus Copernicus (Mikołaj Kopernik, 1473–1543), who proposed the heliocentric model of the solar system in De revolutionibus orbium coelestium (1543). This Copernican Revolution transformed not only astronomy but all of Western scientific thought, challenging Church authority and paving the way for the Scientific Revolution.
