Thai classical music uses pentatonic scales and distinctive instruments — the pi (oboe), ranat (xylophone), khong wong (gong circle), and saw (fiddle). Classical ensembles (piphat, mahori, khrueang sai) accompany dance dramas and ceremonies. Modern Thai pop (T-pop) and country music (luk thung) blend traditional and contemporary influences.
