A structured dialogue process that helps individuals unlock their potential and improve performance.
Also: executive coaching
Definition
Coaching is a results-oriented professional development process in which a trained coach uses active listening, powerful questioning, and structured techniques to help an individual identify their goals, explore options, overcome barriers, and take action to improve performance or achieve personal and professional objectives. Unlike mentoring, coaching is typically non-directive and focuses on the coachee's own insights rather than the coach's advice. Executive coaching has become a standard development tool for senior leaders.
Example
“The newly promoted VP engaged an executive coach for six months, who helped him develop his executive presence, manage stakeholder expectations, and delegate more effectively in his expanded leadership role.”
