HR Business Partner
An HR professional embedded with business units to align HR strategy with business needs.
Also: HRBP · people partner
Definition
An HR Business Partner (HRBP) is a senior HR professional who is strategically aligned to specific business units or functions, working closely with leaders and managers to deliver HR solutions that drive business performance. Unlike transactional HR roles, HRBPs focus on organizational effectiveness, talent strategy, change management, and workforce planning. The HRBP model, introduced by Dave Ulrich, positions HR as a strategic partner rather than an administrative function.
Example
“The HRBP embedded in the technology division identified that high attrition was linked to poor manager effectiveness, and co-designed a targeted manager capability program with the L&D team.”
