Definition
Statutory compliance in HR refers to an organization's adherence to the full set of labour laws, regulations, and government mandates applicable to employment in its jurisdiction. This includes timely payment and filing of provident fund, ESI, professional tax, gratuity, and other statutory dues, as well as maintaining required registers, submitting returns, and complying with acts governing working hours, safety, and termination. Non-compliance can result in penalties, legal action, and reputational damage.
