Assessment Centre

USUK

A multi-exercise evaluation process used to assess candidates for selection or development.

Also: AC · development centre

Definition

An assessment centre is a standardized evaluation methodology in which multiple candidates are simultaneously assessed across a series of exercises—such as role plays, case studies, group discussions, presentations, and psychometric tests—by trained assessors. It is used for both selection (identifying the best candidate for a role) and development (identifying strengths and gaps in existing employees). Assessment centres are considered one of the most valid and reliable selection methods available.

Example

The bank used a full-day assessment centre for graduate recruits, including a group case study, individual presentation, and competency-based interview, assessed by six trained evaluators.
